VULCAN MATERIALS COMPANY ACHIEVES WILDLIFE AT WORK RECERTIFICATION
FOR CONINTUATION OF A SUCCESSFUL WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

October 8, 2008 (Azusa, CA) – Vulcan Materials Company’s Reliance Rock – Irwindale Asphalt/Azusa Rock site achieved Wildlife at Work recertification from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for the continuation of a successful wildlife management program.  This recertification highlights Vulcan Materials’ long-term commitment to provide and enhance wildlife habitat.

“We are extremely proud of this certification,” stated Jim Gore, Reliance Rock Project Manager.  “We are passionate about the restoration of the riparian areas at Fish Creek and the preservation and monitoring of the Southwestern Willow Flycatcher at the Reliance Rock site.  It is an honor to be acknowledged by the Wildlife Habitat Council for our contribution to wildlife conservation.”

Vulcan Materials first received recognition and certification by WHC in 2003 for their voluntary restoration of the upper reach of Fish Creek.  When complete, Fish Creek will consist of two naturalized canyons revegetated with plants from the same native southern mixed chaparral habitat that is found in the surrounding area.  The staff at Reliance Rock makes providing access to Fish Creek a priority and therefore, frequent access to Fish Creek is arranged.

Vulcan Materials Company will be recognized at WHC’s 20th Annual Symposium and Awards Banquet on November 17th and 18th, 2008 at the Baltimore Marriot Waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland.

Vulcan Materials Company, a member of the S&P 500 Index, is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates and a leading producer of asphalt mix and concrete in California.
